What should students expect in your classes?
A LOT of music, lyrics that weave into the theme of the class and songs that make you feel something (or as many Taylor Swift songs that I can reasonably fit on a playlist). An invitation to dive into exploring ancient yogic ideas in modern life, relationships, and self discovery. A balance of movement and stillness with room to play and make the practice your own.
When you're not practicing yoga, what do you like to do?
I’m an adventure-seeker, a surfer, a writer, and a life-long learner. I caught a serious case of the travel bug, I feel most alive when exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. I tend to mix my love of yoga and surfing with my travels, something thrills me about taking a yoga class in a foreign place or paddling out in other oceans. I’m also always always reading a book (or two) and writing something. I love words and stories and prose and poetry.
What/who inspires you?
The likes of Elizabeth Gilbert, Brené Brown...Pamela Anderson (seriously, read her memoir!) but really, anyone who has the courage to be vulnerable and unapologetically authentic. I am dazzled by those that choose to keep an open heart even when the world makes closing it off a tempting offer. I happen to have met people like this within the walls of Vira Yoga Collective.
What are the MOST important things you want your students to walk out of your class having experienced?
Connection - with each other, with our community, and with themselves. A reminder that they are never alone in what they may be experiencing on or off the mat.
“Every time I think I’ve reached the depths of mind, body, and soul, yoga shows me that there is more to discover.”
What do you love yoga?
Yoga keeps me curious. Every time I think I’ve reached the depths of mind, body, and soul, yoga shows me that there is more to discover. It’s taught me that a never-ending work in progress, a forever practice, is what it’s all about.
What challenges you in yoga?
Reminding myself that feeling unbalanced sometimes is a part of finding balance overall. Forgiving myself again and again and again. Allowing myself to always return to square one and accept the ebbs and flows of how I show up on my mat. Also, crow pose :)
